So Kimi returned to F1 and team Lotus was not so confident I guess because:

Hah, didn’t know that. But I do remember hearing a background dispute about him not being paid, and Lotus trying to ensure mechanics and everyone else were paid first before shelling out Kimi’s dues and may have ultimately led to them parting ways... that and Ferrari had an opening.

This snippet just added a whole other layer to it!
